Looking for a beginner sewing class in Leduc — or a hands-on pd workshop?
This two-session tote bag sewing workshop is ideal for teens, adults, and educators who want practical, skill-based learning they can apply immediately. Teachers in Art, CTS, Fashion Studies, Home Economics, or Maker programs will gain foundational sewing instruction they can confidently bring back to their classrooms.
No prior sewing experience is required.
Participants will design and construct a fully lined tote bag with a front pocket and durable straps while learning essential machine and construction skills in a supportive, step-by-step environment.
Sewing machine basics and safety
How to read and cut fabric using a simple pattern
Clean seam construction and finishing techniques
Hemming and topstitching
Optional higher-level finishes such as French seams
For educators, this workshop also provides:
A replicable beginner sewing project suitable for middle or high school students
Insight into pacing a 2-session project
Strategies for teaching machine safety and confidence-building
One completed tote bag

Medium-weight woven fabric (no stretch; cotton recommended):
1 metre main fabric
1 metre lining fabric
0.5 metre contrast fabric (optional)
Matching thread
Optional strap: 2 metres, 1.5” (4 cm) wide
(If not brought, straps will be sewn in class.)
