Heidi Carroll

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Heidi Carroll is a visual artist working mainly in oil, as well as soft pastel. Born in Saskatchewan and raised in BC, Heidi began her artistic pursuits in Alberta, taking Visual Fine Arts at the University of Calgary, and Design and Illustration at Grant MacEwan College. She has had the privilege of studying under accomplished professionals, including pastel landscape artist David Shkolny of Alberta, and contemporary portrait artist Jane French, of Leicester, England. Heidi’s artistic practice continues to evolve through commission-work and sales at local venues and events in and around Edmonton, and she has exhibited bodies of work at such places as St. Albert City Hall and Edmonton Public Libraries. Heidi lives with her husband and 3 teenage kids in the heart of Edmonton.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My chair portraits are part of an ongoing exploration of everyday items, and a study of organic and geometric balance. My aim in each painting is to develop character through an eﬀective use of light, colour and movement. I am captivated by how subtle shifts in tone can inform the shape and feel of an object. I have come to trust the process of artistic growth that is forged when curiosities are followed and new discoveries are made.
