ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Marilyn Nilsson Grabinsky MFA is an abstract artist working with dynamic colour and confident gestures in the expressionist tradition. She is compelled to make art that evokes questions, memory, and emotion through the eyes of her viewers. In this way, she challenges viewers to genuinely interact with the concepts and simple metaphors of her paintings and drawings. Marilyn lives in Fort Saskatchewan AB, where she flings paint around in her home studio and writes poetry about living a woman's life. This is her first ever market experience: she looks forward to chatting with you about art and artmaking!

ARTIST STATEMENT

Marilyn Nilsson Grabinsky is a Canadian artist whose practice includes painting, mixed-media works on paper, sculpture, and installation. Her paintings are abstract, gestural, and highly textured, blending layers of thick and thin pigment to reveal both surface and mark.

Colour and texture serve as expressive voices in her work, inviting viewers into an experience of immediacy and emotion. Many of her recent pieces include fragments of her own poetry, offering an added layer of meaning that moves beyond the visible.

Her art explores ideas of identity, relationship, and place—but at its heart, it celebrates the sheer visceral pleasure of making. Through process, gesture, and form, Marilyn’s work opens a space for viewers to feel the energy of creation and to find their own connection within it.
